Remember those pics on the progress of my awesomely huge sword?? Well, I went ahead and drew the thing, took it to Aysha's house to have Kolin show us how to cut it, returned to Teri's house with what happens to be not the most appropiate tool for the job, have Juankie give me a superior bit for faster cutting, and get to work!
Well, the darned thing was cut and then Moo and Juankie are going "it's just not quite right..." and it wasn't, but I had drawn and re-drawn the design so many times I was quite stubborn about doing it over or changing it.
In any case I had decided to go in and vector the intricate design on the middle of the sword when it dawned on me: I COULDA VECTOR THE WHOLE THING! DURH! Tracing the sword in illustrator will enable me to neatly print it even it it needs to be 8 feet high, so of course I go in and trace the darned thing only to find how completely inaccurate my original draft had been. At least with my previous experience I was able to fisnish much faster and get the sanding done too. Only issue now is putting in the dowel... but that I will worry about once we gather the right tools.
And so I move on to other parts of my costume... all the items that I could possibly think I would be needing to order online have been ordered. I received my boxes with yards of foamies, plaster bandages, Cocona in her PVC flesh, I drove 40 minutes to a plastics warehouse to acquire precious styrene sheets and if all goes well wigs and contacts will arrive in time to even do tryouts.
I had even started to make a budget to track my already exorbitant expenses in this venture, but left that in the backburner since with each passing day feel like I'm not gonna make it on time =_=.
I decided it was time to get my hands drity and start crossing some stuff off my list. We squeezed in making Teri's ductape dressform on Monday and Moo helped me in making a plaster cast for mine. That's still only 50% done cuz the dressforms still have to be filled and made to stand in some sort of way...
After that I got inspired to try my hand at making the shoes (cuz they be some crazy shoes yo!), I stayed up until 3am just to barely figure out how I was gonna go about certain parts of the shoe,
tried to go to sleep at 3 while my mind still thought of 20 different ways to make a heel, and my body still feeling like it was going thru the motions of hot glueing, cutting, tracing, and heat gunning. I took some nyquil to knock myself out and clear my nostrils, fell officially asleep at 6am and woke up 10:30 thinking I was gonna make myself gym with Teri.
Needless to say I found whatever I was doing for the shoe inappropiate to the point I almost had to start them over for scratch.
At least I feel better about actually
trying to get started on the costume, even if failing at most of my attempts. I took another trip down to Pearl's before work today and should be better stocked to make more progress.
Right now I just one to be able to say *one* thing is 100% done. Be it one shoe, one breastplate, one accessorie or smth.
Rawr... pics later cuz I'm at work.
